Dean Morehead was born on August 15, 1971, in Anderson, Indiana, to Kenneth and Kathy (Ellis) Morehead. He grew up in Alexandria, Indiana, and attended Alexandria-Monroe High School, where he was an outstanding athlete. Dean received Varsity Awards in Football (1986 and 1987), Basketball (1987-1990), and Baseball (1987-1990). He was a member of the 1987-1988 Basketball C.I.C. Championship team and the 1989 Basketball Sectional Championship team. During the 1989-1990 basketball season, he was awarded the MVP award and was the Captain of the team. He was also Co-MVP, 1st Team All County, 1st Team All Sectional during the 1989-1990 baseball season and was named to the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association South All-Star team.
After graduating from high school in 1990, Dean attended Butler University on a baseball scholarship and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education. He went on to receive his Master's degree from Ball State University.

Career
Dean's passion for sports and education led him to a career as a teacher, coach, and administrator. He coached Varsity baseball at Madison-Grant High School before moving to Blue River Valley High School at Mount Summit, where he was a K-12 Phys. Ed. Teacher, taught driver's ed, and coached the Girl's Varsity Basketball team, the JV Boys' Basketball team, the Varsity Baseball team, and managed the weight room. He owned and operated the D1 Driving School in New Castle for several years before becoming the Athletic Director and Assistant Principal at South Decatur High School in Greensburg.
Dean returned to his alma mater, Alexandria-Monroe Jr. and Sr. High School, where he became the Assistant Principal and Boys Varsity Basketball Coach and Varsity Assistant Baseball Coach. He briefly worked for Envision Laboratories in Indianapolis before accepting a Social Studies teaching position at Switzerland County High School in Vevay, Indiana, where he quickly became a beloved member of the school family and the community. Dean was an official with the IHSAA and officiated numerous sporting events.
Personal Life
Dean was a member of the Alexandria "A" Men's Club and was warm-hearted, compassionate, and always willing to help others, particularly challenged young people.
